Work in Progress: Blankets

I currently have two blankets on the go. I noticed that Thomas’ car blanket was too small (it was given to him when he was born!) so I decided to have a go at the Corner to Corner blanket for him:

I found the pattern on Red Heart Yarns and also watched the video tutorial from The Crochet Crowd.

It is an easy pattern to follow and I love how quickly it is growing. The yarn is Patons Fab DK Aqua. The hook size is 4mm.

I am aiming for it to be at least 80cm wide. I haven’t decided if I want to do it square or rectangle yet though!

I am also using this pattern to make a baby blanket for friends who are going to have a baby in the next couple of weeks. They haven’t found out the gender, so I am doing it white, with a black stripe every five rows:

The yarn is Stylecraft Special Aran, so it is thicker and working up quicker than Thomas’ blanket. The hook size I am using is 5mm. I tried with a size 6mm hook but it looked really messy.

Talking of blankets…I saw these two beautiful blankets at one of my local family centres – large granny square blankets. One day I will make one this size!
