At the end of August, I completed one of my biggest projects to date: an adult sized mermaid tail blanket!
I made this using Stylecraft Special DK yarn in Candyfloss and Bright Pink. I used a 4.5mm hook. The pattern I followed was this one from Yarnutopia. The pattern actually says use chunky yarn and a 6mm hook, but I found that DK yarn worked up fine. I followed the basic stitch pattern until the blanket measured the size I wanted, instead of row counting. I did do the same number of starting chains as suggested though.
The stitch used is the crochet shell stitch, which is 5 TR (US DC) in one space, followed by a DC (US SC) in the next space. Very simple, but it looks great!
It took me a few weeks to make, along side other projects. This is not my favourite colour, but I am so pleased with the result! It was 30in/76cm wide and 39in/100cm long (not including the fin).
